A saturation mailing is one in which a mail piece is sent to each address within a carrier route.  (The USPS offers substantial postage discounts for this type of mailing.)  Concentrating on a specific area can be very effective way of obtaining new customers and/or patients.  Let us explain by examples:

A Podiatry group mails a newsletter to their entire marketing area on a rotating basis.  They send a few thousand each week starting at one end of their marketing area and over the course of six months the entire area has received their mail piece.  Then, the process starts over again.  The result is a steady stream of new patients.  (this client uses a self mailer rather than a postcard)

A Dental group mails a postcard to their marketing area on a rotating basis twice a month.  Each postcard is custom designed and offers a different premium to prospective patients.  Since each postcard has a different incentive offer the results of the mailing are easy to measure.   

Painting and roofing contractors utilize the same basic premise except that they will saturate a specific area and then concentrate on a different area.  Saturation postcard mailings combined with job site mailings produce powerful results.

These are just a few examples of successful marketing strategies using saturation mailings.  Keep in mind that in each instance the program and mail piece is customized to the specific business and the potential market for that business or profession.
